Minor Field Trip Overview

In the day of our minor field trip we were tasked to go to the Sutherland IT Company which is located at Dona Luisa Bldg., Corner Quirino St., Emilio Jacinto Ext, Poblacion District, Davao City, 8000 Davao del Sur, Philippines. When I went there, we were asked to go at the time of 9 am and I arrived at about 8:30 am where I saw some of my classmates in the Field Trip and Seminars. We waited for them outside the building which near it which is a cafĂ© called CoffeeCat. I think that kind of shop sells a lot of expensive coffees. Anyways, we waited there until it was like 9:15 am and when we were asked to come inside, I realized that we are not yet complete. As we entered the Sutherland building we were asked to formed a line of one in which they would give us like the I.D for the entrance and after that, we were asked to write our names and signatures for like the guest area and after that, we were asked to go to the recreational room in which they held the seminars in there. Inside, I can say that the recreational room was quite huge for us and also I found like 3 rooms behind namely, the Prayer Room, Game Room, Singing Room and I forgot the name of the other one. Just because of those rooms, I immediately remembered all the memories in our trip to Manila the companies in which it also existed there. They use those rooms so that they can entertain and so the employees would also have fun. After that waiting for like 30 minutes we were entertained and welcome by a man named Mr. Mars Ninte. I found out the he is the high ranking officer in the recruitment office. He told us about the basics in BPO, what is BPO and many more. He also told us that he will introduce us to the two of their programmers to answer our questions. He also showed us some of the videos that were made by the Sutherland Company. He showed us videos in which the officers of the Philippines branch and the International branch explain to us why there is Sutherland and many more. After that, he introduced us to the IT programmers in their company which they call their “GTI Engineers”. Their names are Mark Rudolph Espanueva and Marben Labonete. They said that they are the ones monitoring the security of the database and the servers and many more. After that we had a site tour in which they introduced us in most of the rooms around the Sutherland building. We were separated into 3 groups and we were the first. I also realized that there were zones in which you must speak in English. Also we saw the server room, and many more. After the tour we sat down and ate the snacks and after that we took a picture and went home. What can I recommend for the improvement of the advance seminar program of USEP? Like the one in major field trip, the school must also provide like suggestions for students to know the best place to learn and enjoy for the Field Trips and Seminars. My advice to those who will take their advance seminar program in the near future: Enjoy the trip and learn many from it.

Major Field Trip Overview

Seminar Overview The first day of the seminar day was quite of kind a rush. It was because the arrival of the airport was at 9:35 am and we depart at 10:05 am at the Cebu Pacific Airlines. During the travel time at airport, it was kind of boring one so I slept at that time but after like a few minutes I woke up and talked to my seatmate. After arriving at NAIA or the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, we immediately went to get our bags and did an attendance in any case someone was missing or left out. After we were confirmed that we are complete, we immediately went outside and waited for the bus that were assigned to us. The travel agency that toured us around Metro Manila was called Maynilad travels and tours and our tour guide were like 3 of them named Kuya Aris, Kuya Byron and Ma’am Lovely. After that, we immediately went to eat lunch at the Mcdonalds near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport or the NAIA. While we were eating lunch inside the bus, we were travelling going to the Department of Science and Technology or commonly known as the DOST which is the branch of the Philippine Government in which this department focuses on improving, enhancing, and developing new technologies that can be beneficial and that can help not only students, but also the Department can help all other people with the use of the technology. While going to the Department for Science and Technology or commonly known as DOST building, we found out that the DOST has like two buildings which is located at Dost-NCR Building, Dost Compound, General Santos Avenue, Bicutan, Taguig. It has lots or properties which are separated into two. The one in which we visited was like in a conference room which is most likely used to held conference or meetings or like what we did in there which is having a seminar for what they did, their achievements, and some of their inventions. In there we were asked to form 2 lines which is separated by gender, and as we went inside, I notices some of the publications or the magazines that were displayed from the entrance of the building or the facility. As I read some of the publications which were free, I noticed that they also do publications or like mini magazines in which they can show the progress of technology not only within the Philippines but also from the international community in which every Filipino or every human can benefit from it. The magazine also displays the achievements of some Filipinos because of their invention that they made which grab the attention of the competitions and won because of those inventions. The publication also features some inventions that were made by the Filipinos with the use of technology. After I took a quick glimpse of the publication near the entrance we were instructed to take a seat in a room which is most likely used for meetings, conferences and many more. As we went there, we were welcomed by 2 persons which are part of the DOST branch in which focused on the technology. The two who welcomed us also said that they are also the web developers of the DOST websites in which they said were first based on the Wordpress, a blog app, in which they developed it. They also said that in the near future, they would use the hardcoded PHP language in which they would not anymore use the Wordpress style in coding for the government website for the Department of Science and Technology or the DOST. We were quite relieved when one of the speakers spoke to us in the Bisaya dialect because we were quite having a hard time talking in Tagalog because we were not quite fluent in Tagalog because Bisaya is the dialect we mainly speak in our homes and not Tagalog and it was quite hilarious. Anyways, as he spoke to us, he mentioned the Project NOAH in which is one of the big projects of the government mainly in their branch in Department of Science and Technology. He said he knew someone who was one of the main engineers or programmers in this kind of project. Project NOAH means Project Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards. He then welcomed us to one of the programmers in Project NOAH which is a bearded chubby guy in which he explained why the Project NOAH was invented. They said that it was because of the lack of real time response in emergency disasters. He said that what PAG-ASA only provides is the forecast of the weather in the Philippines but not in real time and they are not providing awareness of the disaster and that is why they created the Project NOAH. He said that this project started at the time when President Benigno Aquino was still a president at that time at some time in 2010. He also said that one of the USEPians or one of the students of University of Southeastern Philippines developed the mobile app for the Project NOAH in which became more mobile and can be used by everyone who owns a smartphone which is now rampant in the Philippines. He said that because of this mobile phone app, the Project Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards became more accessible for Filipinos and can help more Filipinos during a disaster. He also said that because of the Project NOAH, we can almost secure the safety of most Filipinos in a disaster. After he spoke his speeches to us, the two who welcomed us talked about the projects they are currently developing or currently finished. One of the projects that grabbed my attention is called Starbooks, which kind of sounds like the famous coffee shop in the Philippines which is kind of hilarious. The two said that Starbooks is an online library in which they introduced to schools and universities to help them expand their library resource and also to help the students in their thesis particularly in the part in which they must site resources. Because Starbooks provide online and offline services, students could also find the resource of their research through the Starbooks. Also, the Department of Science and Technology presented other of their projects in their specific branch that I forgot their names. But I kind of remembered some of their projects which kind of involves in the weather of the country and many more. After that, we made a trip inside the SM Bicutan located at SM Bicutan. I can say it was quite huge and almost like the SM found here in Davao. The only thing I kind of hated while visiting that mall was that the strolling in that mall was kind of just the same when we are at other kinds of mall. I expected that it was quite of new when going to some malls in places other than Davao. After we went to SM Bicutan strolling, we went to the restaurant that is located in Makati named Great Eastern Hotel in which it is a buffet and is full of Chinese foods. For me, it was like a 7/10 in terms of taste and we had fun in there while eating and many more. After eating and talking most of the time inside, we went outside and take pictures outside in the views of Makati after like 1 hour we went back to our buses and we were preparing making our way back to the place we will stay for a while which is the Kabayan Hotel located at Pasay City and after that is that we were immediately told to rest for the night because tomorrow, we need to get early for our next company visit which is Ideaspace located in Makati. Day 2 when we were preparing we were told to wear our formal attires when doing our company visit. Then at about 8 am in the morning the buses arrived and we had like 1 hour of travel going to Makati since it was traffic at that time. While we were traveling, Kuya Aris, our tour guide for the whole trip, was teaching us and giving us facts about the specific places we passed through and specific facts of the certain kind of place. When we went to Makati, I kind of appreciated the view in which what you can only see when you are commuting are the high rising towers that are located there. You can say that Makati is a business city with high rise building owned by rich businessmen like the Ayala Family. After observing some city highs we went to the Ideaspace building which is for me is a quite small building compared to the others but they later explained that it was because they are currently renovating their building the exact time when we visit their company. When we went there, we were asked if it was okay if we are divided into two groups since the office and the room to be used for lecture is quite small for 60+ people to fit in and so, we directly agreed. The first batch went and what we saw there while they were meeting is quite a mini office in which it is clean and the one that you can see from the outside is the LCD Projector with comfortable pillows. After they finished, we were the next to be lectured by the lecturer. One of the things he mentioned is that Ideaspace is a company that is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting innovation, technology development, and entrepreneurship as a path to nation building. They said that they are being sponsored by SMART and PLDT Company to also support the ideas of some people that wants to make a start-up business. They also help budding technology entrepreneurs and develop ground breaking innovations and transform these into successful businesses. One of the works that Ideaspace sponsored and was told to us by one of our professors is the idea or the business in which the application can learn about the temperature of water used in planting rice grains which is quite very useful to farmers because temperature is also a key factor when planting rice grains the rice field. He also said that Ideaspace has a mission and it is “OUR MISSION is to encourage, develop, and nurture innovation and entrepreneurship by delivering a multi-faceted support program for science and technology entrepreneurs in the Philippines and in the ASEAN region.” And he also said that there vision is “OUR VISION is to build a new Philippine economy that is driven by technology, innovation and entrepreneurship as a path to nation-building.” Their programs as he said are that they incubate in which their multi-faceted support program to enable technopreneurs who bear good and novel ideas and help them turn these ideas into viable and marketable businesses. And they also said that they inspire their grassroots and community driven programs aimed at fostering knowledge, and understanding of technopreneurship, innovation and the startup culture. And also they said that they integrate ecosystem building projects and ventures in collaboration with industry partners and stakeholders that support local startup scene. The speaker said that they also hold competitions in which they would be showcased by many Business Model Canvass in which it is used to start start-up business. When someone wins in their annual competition, they would most likely invite him or her to start a contract with them in which they would develop the application in which is used to start a start-up company. He said that if they agreed, there would be a weekly test in which they would check the progress of the program before a scheduled deadline in which they would decide if they will still be starting a company. They also said that they would sponsor them with 1 million pesos in which what I think is a large amount to help the developers in developing for their own start-up company. He also said that he is inviting the learners of our course to join the upcoming competition in which we would provide for our Technopreneurship subject. He said that he believes that we would be likely more to win if we have to join their competition in which I think is also good. After he had his lecture, he toured for a while in their mini office in which he also said that there were some people who won the contest had their applications being checked currently and when I saw them, they were like an all women group in which they let their applications be checked by one of the lead officers in the Ideaspace and they also showed some of the applications that won the ideas of the Ideaspace in which they made to be a start-up company. After that we took picture and many more. Also, he said that they also made the makeshift garden in which we stayed for quite a while the first meeting was going on. After we exited from the Ideaspace mini office found in Makati City we went to eat lunch for a while at someplace delicious then we made our way to the Tutuban Mall in Makati which is beside an SM Mall I forgot the name of. In this is just like most malls of Davao City which is why I quite find it boring to stroll in that place. Then we ate at a restaurant that offers Pampangueno foods in which they have the sisig and many other unique foods. What I think about the food there was that it was quite awful that even my classmates ate quite a little because of what they think of the awful food but I only quite found that the Sisig was quite tasty but overall the restaurant is for few special people with special tastes. After that we travelled for at least 2 hours to Metro Manila Development Authority or also known as the MMDA. In MMDA, we took a while to get in because of the bus having no parking area which is quite hilarious. When we entered the MMDA, we saw a bunch of security camera footages in which they used to monitor the streets of Manila. When we were there we took quite a lot of pictures because most of us had the first time to see large security footages inside a building. After that, we were being told to sit down because of the speaker coming in and lecturing us about the technicalities in the MMDA or the Metro Manila Development authority system in which helped them mostly in monitoring crimes, accidents, traffics and many more to mention and also to guide the visitors in the orientation for the MMDA offices. The speaker told us that the monitoring of the MMDA was greatly more consistent than the one they used before, because of this technology, it has reached through a pseudo-USA type of technology in which in real time, and they could check if there is a certain accident, traffic or crime in a specific area in just a click. The MMDA also lectured us about the system they were using and how they processed it. I asked one of them if there is already a software or a device that they are using that can track the speed of a car just only through their camera. What they answered to me was quite satisfactory because they said that there was almost a device they will use that is similar to that but it was not approved because of some system bugs and technicalities in using it. One example is that when the camera is used by the wind and what would result is that the speed of a slow moving vehicle would be shown in the camera as a fast one because of the system of that kind of device. Also he said that, one day, they would use that kind of equipment but they would test it and test more until they are satisfied in that kind of invention. Another thing that was asked by one of my colleagues is that what about the security of the database inside the MMDA database. He answered that there is a dedicated line for MMDA which is really secured and cannot be easily accessed. Also, they said that their database is not connected to the internet and also it is only exclusively connected to their main headquarters which is found in Guadalupe. They did not let us in the real server room but they only showed us the room in which the media can enter to watch and broadcast where the traffic is through the MMDA cameras that are in that area. Also, the MMDA showed us how they operate the cameras and how they monitor the streets of Metro Manila through the use of the cameras. As we observed, they also explained that the cameras could also rotate at 360 degrees horizontally and can also rotate 180 degrees vertically which is a good thing it is because so that they can also see the happenings under the camera like crimes, traffics and many more. Also some cameras are placed at the top floor of most buildings for the view and for a wider perspective than before. After that, they discussed to us some things about the MMDA database and also how the media records from the videos that were captured at the headquarters of the MMDA. What they do is that in the conference room, directly above the main tech room in which they view the cameras, they can record almost all or all the videos in which what the MMDA cameras see in their own cameras. We observed that there was also a Media Camera in which it was labeled as CNN, a network which focuses on news and affairs, which was placed in the far right of the mirrors in which you can see the cameras rolling and taking videos around the Metro Manila. They also said that there were about 200+ cameras that belonged to the MMDA that are around the Metro Manila in which most are placed on the top of the private buildings, lamp posts, traffic lights and many more. After all the talk and sightseeing around the MMDA office found in Guadalupe, Metro Manila. We took a picture until at about 4pm and we proceeded to our bus. After exiting the branch, we noticed at least 2 cameras. 1 camera at the top of a high building, and one at the billboards that we observed at the MMDA or Metro Manila Development Authority headquarters in which one was in a billboard observing the Guadalupe Streets. After that we travelled for almost like 2 hours going to SM Mall of Asia which I consider as the largest city mall in the Philippines. That was not actually the first time I visited, but my second time in which it still makes me kind of excited because of the large part of the mall which will be visited and many more stores and stalls which are not found in Davao City. So what we did there on SM Mall of Asia or SM MOA is that we find a Timezone store in which we had fun because one of my friends who was with me won like 2000+ tickets so we really had fun in there even though it was just like the 5 of us in that time. We really had fun in there while playing some of their games because it was like when he won the game, it was like he was the first that won that kind of game which kind of hard because of the need of high accuracy and timing. But it was like he was the first who finished that game. And we jokingly said that, the Bisayas are the first to win this and not the Tagalogs because after that victory, the Tagalogs were like “wow, they won!” and it was quite happy on our part. After that we claimed our prices which are the basketball and a chess that is quite hilarious for us and we said that it was for our room so that we can have fun. After that, we went outside to view the scene from the bayside in which it was kind of amazing because it was not like the David’s statue in Davao in which I didn’t even see the sun set in there but in MOA, it was quite spectacular seeing those kinds of view. The only downside in there was that the area was kind of dirty because of cat poos and as usual the trash of the people that are thrown in there. When we went to the bayside, we observed the big Ferry’s Wheel in which what I think is the largest Ferry’s Wheels I have ever seen in my whole life I have been living. It was quite huge and it was like 50+ feet if I am not exaggerating so after that we take pictures around the bayside which is quite cool and after that we talked with our fellow students about the experience of going to the largest mall in Asia. What I really felt is that it was just like the same kind of mall but is just bigger. If we were to bring larger money, then maybe we could enjoy more in a mall because of the much more expensive prices than the ones in the Davao City. After that we still bought some clothes which are quite cheaper and was on sale so I bought one and I bought some food for the ones in the room and for my family living in Davao. After that, we went to Giligan’s restaurant just right beside the large Ferry’s Wheel in which what I think I that the food there is really delicious especially the sisig with mayonnaise which I found that It was rally delicious even paired with a lechon paksiw or kawali. Then after that we stroll for a while to wait for our buses for about an hour or two then after that, we went to our buses and at least it took us only 30 minutes to travel from the Sm Mall of Asia going to the Kabayan Hotel which we went at the time of 9 pm at the evening. We were all quite tired at that time and we want to sleep instead of still playing around with the prizes but we still slept at about 10 pm that time because we were doing something with our own necessities and many more. The next morning which is the call time of about 8 am we were woke up by some classmate because we must prepare for going to the University of Philippines Diliman which the tour guide, Kuya Aris, said that it will at least take 2 hours to travel because of the traffic and the distance was quite far so we came early and followed his instructions. While we were on our way to the University of the Philippines Diliman or commonly known as UP Diliman, we had fun inside the bus trading jokes and having karaokes just for fun and all. After for like 1 hour of nonstop talking, almost all of us went to sleep because it took quite some time to go there and we think that we need more energy so that we could be energized while visiting the University of the Philippines and as we go on we may be feeling tired because of all the talking inside the bus. When I woke up, we were already at the University of the Philippines in which it almost looks like UP Mindanao because it was like a farm in which there are too many plants. I also observed that there were quite a few people inside but I was told by the tour guide that where we entered was like the backside of the University and it was really quiet at there. After for like how many minutes of like issues in going inside the University of the Philippines Diliman, at last we were already allowed inside. It quite took long because the guard did not knew about the University visit happening. When we went inside, I noticed that there were many building really dedicated for each college and also they were quite huge, one of the building that I saw was really dedicated to Information Technology and I realized and knew that that was like the library for one college which is the Computer Science college in which they all do their research, thesis, dissertations and many more in there. Also the building is quite large for a 3 story building in which I think that it was quite enormous for a 3 story building. After that we went inside the UPDDC building which is dedicated for Computer Technology and Computer Science in which they all do the researches and some like minor courses. When the coach captain parked the bus, we were commanded to get down and go to the UPDDC building which we quite walked at about 10 meters. After that, we waited there for like 10 or 20 minutes because of the preparation for the Mini Y4IT. We had a mini Y4IT because we missed the main Y4IT which was at the end of October because of the conflict of schedules with our faculty and the accreditation week in which they said that they needed more faculties and could not afford to lose some. So we were all quite disappointed that time and we were quite sad because we would miss the main Y4IT which is the peak or the goal of our Field Trip and Seminars. Also, the main Y4IT was originally held at the SMX in Sm Mall of Asia but because the scheduled conflicts, we all missed it but luckily for us, Sir Randy Gamboa asked the University of the Philippines Diliman to at least conduct a mini Y4IT in which some of the original speakers in the original Y4IT in which one was a professor in University of Diliman. We were all headed to a conference room in which it was quite spacious and we all seated at the backrow. The first to speak is a professor at the University of the Philippines Diliman and an IT Security Analyst. One of his achievements was that he helped the most famous social media website Facebook, in tracking a bug in which caused a minor error in administering a page in which someone is a member in. He said that after like 2 days he reported it, he was responded by one of the IT Security Analyst of the Facebook page in which he said that it is quite a major problem. The problem is that if you were one of the members of a page, you could download the whole web page even if you are just a member but this kind of privilege was only exclusive to the admins of the page in which they said is quite a large issue in Facebook because it can lead to a hole going to the database of a page and that is really a horrifying one. So after he reported it and after the problem was resolved, he was quite shocked and happy because they gave him a bug bounty for about 20,000 dollars in which is a really a large amount of money. Bug bounty is a kind of bounty when a Security Analyst or a user found a bug which is if just left, would be a big corruption not only on one PC or page but can also be a large threat in a database or a large threat for website users or the company itself. Bugs are some incomplete or unintended error in a program or website in which is quite dangerous or a threat when left alone. Because of this bug he found, in that month where he found the bug, he was put on the top 1 white hacker in which found a bug in Facebook which helped Facebook a lot more in developing their programs. He said that there are 2 types of hackers, there is a white hat hacker and a black hat hacker. A black hat hacker is a kind of hacker that hacks for the sake of bad purposes. He defaces a website without a permission and he or she access the database which is not intended for him or her to access. One example of this is the hacker on China who hacked and defaced some of the Philippine Government websites. In this case, the hacker is called a black hat hacker because of manipulating a website which is restricted for him or her On the other hand, white hat hackers are the kind of hackers that helps and hacks for the sake of good purposes. Example of that was the professor of the UP Diliman which is now the IT Security Analyst because of that he did in Facebook. Also he did some bug hunting in some local websites like the OLX and many more which greatly helped them in their flaws in their security and many more. After that, he said that in hacking most of the tools used are in Linux Operating System because Linux is an open source Operating System in which you can almost use it to almost do anything on a computer. After that, he discussed on the tools made in the Linux system to manipulate some of the hard coded HTML and PHP codes to test them. After that, he said that we must all be hackers for the sole of good purposes. After the IT Security Analyst spoked, the one after him was a database management security expert in which he discussed the local and not the internet type of hackers. He told us the different ways in protecting and avoiding the discrepancies of the systems and many more. One example of it was to not share to anyone the passwords of all your accounts. I think it was quite basic but for me it is still really helpful to know most of the basic security acts like not sharing a password and many more. He also said many more tips like do not open suspicious mails that might be the cause of a virus, worm, Trojan horses and many more. He also discussed the pests of the systems which are the viruses, Trojan horse and worms. He said that Viruses are A computer virus is a type of malicious software program that, when executed, replicates by reproducing itself (copying its own source code) or infecting other computer programs by modifying them. Infecting computer programs can include as well, data files, or the "boot" sector of the hard drive. When this replication succeeds, the affected areas are then said to be "infected" with a computer virus. The term "virus" is also commonly, but erroneously, used to refer to other types of malware. He also said that in computing, Trojan horse, or Trojan, is any malicious computer program which is used to hack into a computer by misleading users of its true intent. The term is derived from the Ancient Greek story of the wooden horse that was used to help Greek troops invade the city of Troy by stealth. Trojan horse virus are a dangerous one because you may never know if the program is a virus or not until it reveals it’s real self. Trojan horse virus is a dangerous one since it can corrupt the whole system if you just leave it alone and your personal computer could suffer in not functioning anymore because of the capabilities of the Trojan Horse Virus which can destroy a system. Another thing he taught us was about the worm which is also a fatal unit in PCs because of its capability to replicate itself until your hard drive has no more available space in your system which is quite horrifying because you cannot control the amount of files that the worm multiplied and it can also cause some problems like your computer being slow in processing and many more. After he explains more of the security in local computers, he discussed like quite of a few basic examples in to protecting your own account or PC. After he spoke, the next one they said was about game developing and I was quite excited in learning that because I love games and I will never stop loving them. So the speaker spoke about game developing. The program in which he use is called the Unity which is a 2d and 3d game designer in which you can program through C Language. He taught us very many functions and he said that he will teach us how to create a game. So the concept of the game was that the protagonist is a crab and the concept was like Pac man in which the protagonist eats all the food that the game provides while being chased by a monster that also eats the protagonist. I realize that in game development, that all movements, rotations, camera movement, camera rotations, movement of the antagonist, creation of the area, creation of the foods and may more are still being coded even the smallest of the smallest details in a game. After that, he taught us more in creating games through the Unity and taught us some of the syntax in making games through Unity and the C language. After that, he said that he will provide prized for the ones who can answer his questions which is a Power Bank. After that, we took lunch at the bus and many more. After we ate our lunch we were instructed to go to a facility in which there was a library for the engineering and computer science students. We walked for about 10 minutes from our bus to there and we tour around the facility for some of the information. We crossed one of the rooms which I found out was for the masterals and doctorates which quite looks like an American classroom. We also tour at their computer labs which I discovered are quite high powered ones which are I3 and we also came across in some of their rooms where they do their thesis. After that, we went out for a while going to the bus then we crossed to the Nokia Labs through the Commonwealth venue which I was kind of surprise because the UP Diliman, Nokia and the IBM Offices are just near each other. You can just literally take a walk from the UP Diliman to the Nokia office. As we went there, we were welcomed by the CEO of the Philippine branch who is quite cheerful and quite talkative to us in a positive way. When we went there, he welcomed us and he led us to their conference room in which they held their meetings and many more. I was quite shock because the office quite looks like the Google Office in which there are xbox consoles, mini golf courses and many more. While we were amazed at the view of the office, he discussed to us all about the IT doings of the Nokia Company. He also said that Nokia will not be producing phones but they would be assisting in telecommunications. What he meant is that they help globe, smart, sun and PLDT in their signals and telecommunication. He also said that Nokia is now developing 5g in which it is stronger and faster internet than the 3g and 4g and which is not yet available in the market and still Nokia Philippines is still searching about it. After that he told us that there were specific themes in each floors of the Nokia building. The first was about the Philippines which is the Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The second is about the European countries and lastly on the third floor are the Asian countries. He said that they did this because it is more helpful for the programmers, coders and many more to relax in an environment they want to be. I also think that when I graduated and knew more about programming, I wanted to work here to. After he toured us, he went to us and asked for our emails and names of all of us because he said that he can see the potential of us in working in this kind of company. After that we said our goodbyes to them. Then, we went to our bus to wait for a few couple of minutes to go somewhere. After we went to UP Diliman, we traveled going to the Trumway’s restaurant. In this restaurant, they offer such magnificent and delicious foods in which we all enjoyed. After that, we went to the Divisoria, in which we shopped for a while. One thing I noticed about the Divisoria is that there are really many people shopping in here and once we met a Bisaya in which he gave us discount in one of his bags and hats. We were quite happy because of that and after that, we went to the bus and went home for like 1 hour. For the last day of company visits, we visited the ALS in which the company is partnered with the Japanese People who also have the same name of their branch. They said that they only have at least 8 or 9 branches around the world. One in Manila, Cebu, 2 in Japan, 2 in China and many more. The one who lectured us is one of the managers of that company and he also said that he also knew Ma’am Maui which is also one of our professors before. After that, he said that they offer training in very many kinds of computer languages that we can also learn and train through that. After that, he said that they also teach their employees Japanese and they also hold special events and holidays in which I think the employees of the company will enjoy. The meaning of the ALS Company is Advanced World Solutions. After that, we were scheduled to tour to the Tagaytay in which we visited a place called Palace in the Sky. We toured there for like 2 hours and we cannot admire the view because of the thick for the area was covered. After going there we went to the Enchanted Kingdom in which I can say is one of the greatest places in the Philippines if you are with friends. After going there and touring until 7 pm, we went home through the bus and took a trip for almost like 2 hours going home. After that we prepared our things because the next day, we were going home and we packed our things up. The last day, I can say I will really miss this kind of trip because it was really fun in there. Day 1 Today, I went on a seminar to Department for Science and Technology or commonly known as DOST building, we found out that the DOST has like two buildings which is located at Dost-NCR Building, Dost Compound, General Santos Avenue, Bicutan, Taguig. What I learned? Project NOAH in which is one of the big projects of the government mainly in their branch in Department of Science and Technology. What I liked? What I liked about there was the science-sy place and the one where they discussed to us about the projects they made. What I didn’t like? We toured there for like just 1 hour. It felt like it was missing. Day 2 Today, I went on a seminar to Ideaspace is a company that is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting innovation, technology development, and entrepreneurship as a path to nation building. They said that they are being sponsored by SMART and PLDT Company to also support the ideas of some people that wants to make a start-up business. We also went to Metro Manila Development Authority or also known as the MMDA. What I learned? The security and the surveillance side of Information Technology and Computer Science and the entrepreneur side of it. What I liked? What I like about travelling in day 2 was the part in which one of the head of MMDA discussed to us about the cameras and the hardware system used in MMDA. What I didn’t like? Nothing. Day 3 Today, I went on a seminar to University of the Philippines Diliman and Nokia Philippines Company. What I learned? The web security, game developing and the Telecommunication part in the industry of Computing. What I liked? What I liked most in this day is the one where he teaches us the game developing side of Information Technology because since I was a kid I love Video Games and when I grew up I realized I want to create some games. What I didn’t like? Nothing. APPENDIX What can I recommend for the improvement of the advance seminar program of USEP? What I can recommend for the improvement of the advance seminar programs of USEP in the future is that the University must be recommending at least some of the places that the students of a specific course must visit. At least they must give the lead student a guide in which places most likely the students will learn more. My advised to those who will take their advance seminar program in the near future is that they must stick together with the other students. Just enjoy and learn from the seminars.
